Creative activity for children- Making a paper boat

It’s fun and easy process learning how to make a paper boat for both kids and adults. To create your own paper boat, you should follow these easy instructions. Take a piece of paper (standard 8 1/2" by 11”) and a flat surface for your work. Use the size of paper according to the size of the boat you want to make. You can work with origami paper but it works better with white paper.

Here are the steps on how to make a paper boat

Step 1
You should lay vertically the piece of paper on a flat work surface whereby the short sides will be at the top and bottom. In the case that your paper has a colored side, place this side up.

Step 2
You should fold the paper in half from the left edge to the right edge, and thus forming a vertical center crease. Unfold the paper. While holding your sheet of paper, you should fold it in half lengthwise.

Step 3
From the top edge to bottom edge, fold the paper in half to crease well.

Step 4
Then take the two corners, on the folded end, and fold them in to meet the each other in the center of the paper. Two triangles with a thin strip below is the resulting shape.

Step 5
You should then fold the top layer of the bottom strip up along the edge of the triangles. Repeat the same process on the other side, by folding the bottom layer to the back.

Step 6
By using the existing center crease, open the sides of the model and flatten it. The resulting shape will be a square. Fold one of the strips under the other in case the flaps you just folded are sticking up.

Step 7
Fold the top layer up, to ensure that the bottom corner meets the top corner. Replicate the same process on the other side to have a multi-layered triangle shape.

Step 8
Ensure you open the sides of the model at the bottom of the triangle. Flatten along the center crease to form another small square.

Step 9
You should pull the layers apart at the top corner.

Step 10
Form a trapezoid shape on each side by flattening each side outwards. Then crease all the folds and open the model slightly.
If you wish to make your paper boat waterproof, apply a layer or two of clear tape to the bottom of the boat. Nevertheless, the paper boat will still float without it but with the tape, it will hold together longer. Your children can also have fun decorating the boat with glitter or paint. Engage your kids with  children art & craft set & help them to develop there creativity.
