Baby Toys that will get you Free Time

Every mother will be happy to any toys that will keep her small child entertained for prolonged periods of time. It is very tiring to keep carrying a baby around, play with him and keep him from crying, especially if a baby is only 3-7 months old. When baby is only a few weeks old, he can still lay in a crib quietly looking around. But when he is reaching more conscious age, he will want to be entertained all day long. Luckily we live in day and age where toys are made not only to entertain a baby, but also to free up some time for parents. Here are a few toys that really work:

Play Gym (1-5 months)
Play gym is a colorful mat with toys hanging above the mat. Babies love this toy and before they start rolling will give you hands free 20-30 minutes. You have to be around though and ensure safe placement of the toy. Floor is probably best or bed with barriers around it. Some babies roll in the first month which means they can fall from any surface. Play Gyms are great because they encourage baby tummy time - very important for baby development. Play Gyms are portable, so if you are visiting a friend or a relative you can put your baby there for some hands free entertainment.

Playard (0-10 months)
Some babies live in a playard. It is also called "Pack and Play". It is sort of a mini cage with somewhat transparent walls that provides for a secure space for a baby. Baby can sleep in it, play in it, some, even watch TV or interact with outside world. Some payards are portable, which is great for short and long distance travelling. You can put some toys in it. Babies love playards because toys are within their reach and their movements are somewhat unconstrained. They can lie on the tummy, sit up, stand or some even learn how to walk.

Swing (0-10 months)
Swings will provide for a worry free hands free time for good 20 minutes to up to 2 hours. It is great for very tiny babies who love to cuddle and be rocked. Swing is also one remedy from colic as it not only comforts the baby, it also distracts from crying. Many crying babies will stop crying and fall asleep within 10 minutes in a swing. Swings are equipped with safety straps and are safe for even active babies.

Jolly Jumper (3-10 months)
This toy, or more so a play system, is over 60 years old. It comprises of a metal arc and a mini cotton chair that can bounce up and down imitating a baby jump. Ever since you put your baby in this jumper, you will have 30-60 minutes of hands free, cry free time guaranteed! Babies just love to jump and get lifted into the air. This toy is also very safe as baby is literally trapped inside it and will not be able to get out no matter how hard he tries. It is also not harmful for their tiny soft bodies and it designed in a way that the weight is pulled away from the spine. Jolly Jumper is considered safe as long as baby can hold the head well.

Saucer (5-10 months)
Saucer is a fully loaded with toys play station. It comprises of a circle with a rotatable cotton chair inside. Various toys surround the baby letting her interact with them by touching, pulling, squeezing and banging them. Some modern saucers have mini piano part of the toy, which children love because they get feedback in return of touching. Good saucers also bounce up and down as baby gets very excited and naturally feels to jump. Some parents report that they got over an hour of playing time. Saucer are also sometimes called mini-gym, because babies can really "exercise" their hands, legs and lungs while playing with it.
