Being pregnant and having a baby is one of the most joyous occasions in a woman's life. Other than preparing for the birth by buying all the baby's necessities, one of the most memorable parts of the pregnancy is the baby shower. A baby shower is where friends and family of the expectant mother come together to celebrate the impending baby arrival by showering the mother with gifts, hence the name baby shower. Read on to get some decorating, game and gift ideas for your next baby shower.

Baby shower decorations The way the baby shower venue is decorated will depend on the sex of the baby. For a baby shower for a baby girl all decoration can be in a pink theme, from pink balloons, pink plates and glasses, to pink party favours such as pink baby cupcakes, pink cookies, pink flowers and a pink cake. On the other hand, for a baby boy baby shower have all decoration in blue. A good idea for baby showers is for them to be theme based on what the mother likes. Use a lot of flowers to decorate the tables and the venue of the baby shower. There are variety of flower decorations online which you can make by yourself or order from a professional flower delivery service or a florist.

Baby shower games

Fun games at a baby shower will keep the celebration going as everyone can take part in the fun and sometime silly games. Here are the top 3 baby shower games:

1. Pregnant twister

At one point in our life we have all played twister and what better way to relieve your childhood then to play pregnant twister. All you need to do is grab some wrist weights, pillows, fanny packs and the twister game and let the pregnant twister begin. This game will allow your guests to pretend to be pregnant while testing their flexibility and skills while 'being' pregnant. This game can be more fun if the baby shower is co-ed enabling the male guests to be 'pregnant' and get in touch with their feminine side.

2. Guess the baby

Guess the baby game is known as being a good icebreaker to kick starts the shower. We all know that looking at baby picks makes everyone go gaga so let your guest show off their cute baby pic and see how many can guess who's baby picture is who's. Take the baby pictures as the guests arrive and place them on a number board and let the guests try to guess the right owner.

3. Ask mum

The ask mum game is one that will surely leave the mum and guests in hysterics and all you need is pens and note cards. We know that all prospective mothers have tones of questions about the baby but somehow we are sure that the answers in this game may not help her best. All you have to do is sit in a circle, give the guests pens and note cards and get them to write one question on the note card and pass it to the next guest who will then write the answer to the question they asked on the other side of the note card. The mum will then read the questions and answers with the winner being the one that got the most laughs.

Baby shower gifts

We all know that no baby shower is complete without the mother being showered in gifts. While you can't go wrong with buying cute baby clothes, baby accessories or baby toys, stand out by buying something different. Give a personalised gift by making your own nappy cake. All you need to do is buy a few packets of dippers (depending on the size of the cake you are after) and stack them one onto each other to create the 'cake'. For that extra ump decorate the cake with baby gifts, bottles, pacifiers, booties, bodices and baby shampoo to name a few, which we are sure the mother will love.

By following these few tips we are sure that the baby shower will be unforgettable for both the guests and the mother.
